Different types of routines
There are many different types of routines. Some routines control your daily life, or there are exercise routines. I only have one, and it’s ok that it is not like everyone else’s. But let’s get into it. What kind of routine is it? It’s the routine that works for me.
Purpose of a routine:
Is the purpose of routine time management? Or is it something else? Or is it not a way of gaining control over a situation? To reduce stress, improve focus, and productivity. A way to provide structure to a situation that otherwise had none.
Morning routine
This is how I usually start my mornings. The alarm is set for 6, and I lie in bed a few minutes gathering myself for the day. A good habit to get into would be to pray during this time. I keep saying I will. Sooner or later, I will remember.
Then I get up within about 15 minutes and get my coffee and just sit for a few minutes. Before the kids and the spouse. Before the demands of the day take over and satisfy its hunger, leaving me tired and drained. I get a cup of coffee and sit and play on my phone.
At about 7:30, except on Fridays, I start waking everyone up. And if my hubby is not up, I wake him up last. 8 am. And I have to consider how blessed I am. Because I remember having to be up by 3:50 and out the door by 5 to be at my 6 am shift. The traffic, then the babysitting that we had to find. OMG. So blessed to be at home and so blessed to be able to be on here.
So next, we have to get everyone ready for school. 3 little heads have to be brushed and ready to go by 8:40, and out the door and on the bus by 9. Then it’s onto my cleaning routine.
Cleaning Routine
I do my cleaning routine slightly backward, as in I do my floor first. Actually, that’s not correct. I do the catboxes, all 3 of them. Then I wipe off the tables. After that, I pick up the floor, which usually has toys and candy wrappers on it. Every day. Then sweep and lastly mop.
Then I do any extras I can for that day. The bathrooms need to be done regularly, and I do those after the floor. Hence, why I say I do it backward.
Evening routine
The evening routine actually starts after I pick up the kids from the bus.
They play for about an hour or an hour and a half. Until it gets dark, whichever comes first. After they have gotten all their extra energy out, we start on homework. Because we have to get out the wiggles before expecting them to sit again and do more work. After homework is dinner, and then lastly showers before bedtime.
We do this every night, and it seems to keep us all on track for our daily habits. We do it on Saturdays. And on summer days. We do it on holidays and every day that we want to be on track. When we have to deviate because the schedule says so, it does cause a ruckus.
That’s when we get all the attitudes when things don’t go our way, and there is nothing we can do about it.
